Hey Ronnie, Was good to finally meet you, and congrats on the award. Chris is making me run a barn hunt lol so figured I'd give it a go. I tried to pm you earlier but don't think it worked. I have a couple questions for you if you don't mind..I don't really want to cook clean a whole bunch so want this to be more a help yourself hunt and like the pub supper/takeout ideas. Barn 2 I understand is seperate living quarters is that correct? Does everyone fend for themselves with breakfast? if so that would be great. Chris brought lunches out for Jerry's crew but not sure if thats the norm. I'm thinking just everyone does a tesco load up the first day for the week for breakfast and lunches, snacks.
Any advice would be appreciated m8, thanks

    Hey Ron,
sorry I didn't get your call about the hotel till I was heading to work tonight. My cell phone doesn't have service in the house, sometimes it rings but I can't answer it. It didn't even ring when you called last. I hope you were able to get ahold of Alan and the Heathrow Cottages B&B were open for you. I think the rates are still 80 pounds for two.

Target Recovery....

by ChicagoRon on 01-24-2010 at 12:31 AM
Last time I talked about machines, which machine you use doesn't really matter(as long as it can detect the targets your looking for). Most machines will detect Full gold staters down to 5 or 6", quarter staters and small or cut hammies only a couple inches so coil to the deck!
I have had a lot of luck with the Whites MXT, it is a set and go machine. What it lacks in depth is more than made up for in small target recovery and pinpointing. The MXT has a 0 to 100 target range for non-ferious

Your machine of choice?

by ChicagoRon on 01-14-2010 at 05:53 PM
Ok If I'm going write a blog I may as well try to make it informative. If thats possable.LOL
When detecting in England (plowed fields) I have allways been of the opinion that extra depth for coin sized items is not that important. It is more important to use a machine you are comfortable with.
Those deep big targets (plowparts mosty) will be detectable by most of the better machines. The question is. WILL YOU DIG IT? That loud target that reads 6" and you dig 12 and don't hit it. Do

Transportation all set!

by ChicagoRon on 01-14-2010 at 03:43 AM
Well it looks like I get to use some of those United frequent flyer miles. Booked the march trip. I will be leaving chicago at 6am instead of the usual 6pm flight which means I will be staying at the Raddison Edwardian on Thursday the 11th. Mark and I are booking a room so we will be well rested to hunt until we cant see anymore on the first day. On the return flight, Friday April 2nd was blacked out so the first flight available is monday morning at 7:45 am. I just can't decide if I want to spend

Chicago Ron's barn hunt Blog

by ChicagoRon on 01-12-2010 at 09:53 PM
Hi all, we are now less than 2 months out, and this Roman new area has me dreaming of pots and torques. Let me say now on January 12th that someone is going to find a monster in the spring! It may not be me but I can feel it. This will be my first 3 week tour and I have started working out daily to make sure I can make the 21- 11 hour hunt days! Thats 221 hours of detecting in three weeks. Of course I won't be able to get all those hours with driving to London every friday to exchange hunters. But
