Can someone tell me the method used to "cook" coins? The solution? How to keep it heated and the temp? Type of coins this works on? Silver, copper, etc?
Thanks

Hi Gene
The club opening page has an accumulation of cleaning info.

Let me know if you try some of these methods and which you like the best.
Good Luck !

No such thing as a bad day if you are metal detecting.
Thanks for the link. Will have to try some of these to see which ones work best.
wow!!! that's a lot of info... thanks for the link. I don't have anything from the UK to try but lots of Indian Heads and blackened silver to try..
thanks for the info...will definitely check this out!
I was wondering what "cooking" the finds to clean them involved. The link definitely helped to clarify this.
The download no longer works
only use on ancient or very old silver coins with a "horn crust" covering them.
3 parts olive oil to 1 part lemon juice
keep coin in this solution on coffee maker heating element until solution is discolored - times will vary - days, weeks, years
when the solution is discolored remove the coin and work under magnification to carefully pick off the horn crust where you find faults have developed. finger nail or dull toothpick only - anything harder can gouge up the coin.
repeat this process until you are happy with the way your coin looks. Remove and rinse with water and baking soda to counter the effects of the lemon juice.
easy as that with one big caveat - you must be patient! it took centuries to develop that crust - don't expect it to come off overnight.
